Have you experienced blurred vision, stinging, gritty and scratchy eyes!

These are all symptoms of dry eye.  Dry eye occurs when your eyes do not produce enough tears or have poor quality tears. We all have a thin layer of tears that coat the front surface of our eyes.  We need the tears to keep our eyes healthy and to experience clear vision.  The Optometrist uses a high powered microscope and special dyes to evaluate the quality, amount and distribution of your tears.  They will also evaluate your health, medications and environment to assess what may be causing your symptoms.  Excessive dry eye can scar and damage the sensitive cornea tissue.  The Optometrist can recommend treatments such as artificial tear eye drops or ointments to manage your symptoms and improve your comfort.  Dry eye is usually chronic and there is no cure. New prescription medications are also available now to help the body produce more of its own tears.
